UMC: Guitar Oboe Saxophone Trumpet Trombone Cello Percussion
SMC: Violin (Year 3 pupils only) Guitar French Horn Flute
For the last 30 years Trafford Music Centres have been offering children between the ages of 7 and 18 the chance to learn an instrument, sing and develop their musical learning in a friendly, sociable setting. We currently have 400 children accessing our provision at two music centres who perform at Sale Waterside in two large concerts each year.
We offer group lessons on flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, trumpet/cornet, trombone, french horn, violin, viola, cello and double bass, guitar and percussion. In addition to these lessons children take part in singing activities, recorder lessons, small and large ensembles, rhythm classes and sessions to develop ensemble skills.
Urmston Music Centre
Location: Acre Hall Primary School
Time: Fridays - 4.30 - 6.30pm during term time
Stretford Music Centre
Location: Seymour Park Community Primary School
Time: Saturdays - 9.15 - 12.15pm during term time
Cost: Trafford Council generously subsidises our music centre places. As a result we are currently able to offer places for £90 per year for the first child and £60 per year for any siblings. There is also a deduced rate for children who are eligible for Free School Meals. There will be several additional costs, these include:
Hire of Instruments: Instruments are hired for the cost of £15 per term, this is the same for all instruments. We do not hire out guitars or drum kits.
Printed Music: Over the course of their lessons children will need to buy music books to ensure that they are able to make steady progress. We estimate that this will cost in the region of £10 per term.
The Social Side of Music Centre
There are social areas for the children to congregate when not in a lesson at both music centres. Music centre is a great place to meet new friends and the social side is an important part of our ethos. Each centre also has a tuck shop selling sweets, chocolate and drinks. All profits are put back into the music centres providing things such as equipment and subsidies for trips.
Enrolling at Music Centre
Intake to music centre is in September each year - the only exception to this is when a family has moved into the area part-way through an academic year. To put your child(ren) on the waiting list for next September, please ring the office on 0161 911 8663. Each year we hold information meetings where you can find out more about the music centres and potential members can try the different instruments to help them decide what they would like to play.
Both Music Centres are managed by Helen Sweeney.
