Introduction
Instrumental teachers are expected to be committed, enthusiastic musicians and teachers, who are able to motivate and inspire pupils, and to communicate with conviction and sensitivity. They should be receptive to new ideas and be able to work as part of a professional team of teachers dedicated to offering high quality music education.
Main Activities
The major part of the work is teaching pupils in groups, or, where appropriate, individually. This may lead to tutoring and directing ensembles as well.
Management
TAIT staff are responsible to the Head Teacher.
Duties and Responsibilities
Instrumental teachers are required to act in accordance with the policies of Trafford Music Service. Specific duties may include:
- Teaching pupils in groups and individually according to their instrumental needs.
- Ensuring pupils progress is properly monitored and recorded, and providing written reports at least once a year.
- Maintaining written records of instruments issued to pupils if appropriate.
- Offering appropriate advice and guidance to pupils and parents.
- Being familiar with new repertoire and teaching methods.
- Participating in arrangements for further training and professional development.
- Attending staff and parents meetings up to three times a year.
- Assisting with the preparation and tutoring of pupils, ensembles and groups for concerts and public examinations, where appropriate.
- Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils and safeguarding their health and safety.
- Ensure that premises in which activities take place receive due care and respect.
- Undertaking any other reasonable duties as requested by the Head Teacher
